Best “Spicy”

I loved the flavor of this garlicky dip. It’s not really spicy, but there’s lots of roasted jalapeño essence in it, which is a fun new take on ranch. It almost reminds me of hatch green chilies. So if you’re pining for hatch green chile season or you live nowhere near New Mexico and you want an approximation of that grassy, sweet, peppery flavor, this is the best dip for veggies for your tastes. My only quibble: It’s a little loose. You’ll want to scoop this one up rather than rely on a straight-up-and-down dip.

Best Ranch

If you put a bowl of OG HVR out at a party with some crunchy veggies, no one is going to complain. Hidden Valley Ranch is one of the best veggie dips, not to mention the best ranch dressing we tried in our taste test. “What makes this ranch stand out is that it’s perfectly balanced: It’s a little herby, a little sweet, and a little tangy,” Jordan Myrick wrote in their review. Ranch is great but blue (or bleu) cheese dressing is just plain more fun. And Bob’s Famous is the best blue cheese dressing out there, according to our best blue cheese dressing taste test. “It is so rich and creamy and thick,” Jordan wrote. “It has both big and small chunks of blue cheese and huge pieces of freshly cracked peppercorns.” It’s the best store bought veggie dip for scooping up with celery sticks or dunking leafy broccoli florets.

Onion dip is the best veggie dip if all you’re looking for is pure umami flavor. And Target’s Good & Gather Classic Onion Dip was the best onion dip we tried in our french onion dip tasting. “It’s super thick and creamy, and tastes more like cream cheese than sour cream,” Jordan wrote in their review. That is exactly what you want for hearty veggies like carrot sticks and cauliflower florets. There’s a ton of oniony flavor along with little onion bits in the mix—just enough to add some texture but not so much that it gets in the way of the raw vegetable crunch.

Best Tangy

This veggie dip from Aldi is very creamy and very dilly. So, I’ll admit, it’s not the best veggie dip if you don’t like dill. But if you do, oh boy, you’re in for a treat. It almost tastes like a sour cream and onion chip—but in dip form. And who doesn’t want their broccoli to taste like a sour cream and onion Pringle? The texture is perfect; it’s not too dense but thick enough that it won’t drip off everything.

Just try and step away from the crudites when this dip is at the center. It turns any vegetable into an instant pickle! It’s great for scooping and clings to the outside of a carrot (I tested…a lot). It’s almost like whipped cream cheese. The flavor is extremely pickley and zesty. It’s the best veggie dip you can buy. You’ll find yourself buying raw carrots by the pound, just so you have an excuse to eat more of it—that’s how good it is.
